Our support assistant grab bar – GrabIt – can be used as an assistant device to improve safety when transferring within a bathroom environment. The GrabIt Assist Bar increases the individual’s level of independence, as well as reduces the risk of injury.

PROBLEM:
A straight grab bar (conventional design which is installed parallel against the wall), does not aid the individual enough. When mounted approximately 1.5″ off the wall, the design makes them difficult to reach and limits mobility in obtaining a two-handed grasp. Typically, the conventional grab bar is limited to one side only, which often causes many to require assistance on or off of the toilet. If a conventional bar was located on the same side as a persons disability, the bar becomes useless or difficult to use. Providing the individual with an assist bar that can be positioned in front of them gives them greater use of their strength.  Other devices that project out from the wall simply do not have the support, durability to hold the persons full weight  at waist level , nor do they allow a firm easy to reach grasp.

Although the conventionally designed bar meets the ADA guidelines, we found several deficiencies in these products. Those conventional bars limit a large population from gaining the independence they deserve.

By mounting our GrabIt Assist Bar to the existing conventional bar, the individual will quickly realize the benefits and added independence. The GrabIt Assist Bar instantly provides a perpendicular platform in front of the individual. This provides a two handed grasp position, or a bar that is now positioned directly in front of the individual giving them additional support.
There are no parts on our design that interfere with a persons mobility on or off of the toilet. No tripping hazards. Our intuitive design works so seamlessly, that lifting the assist bar or putting it away takes very little effort – one hand.

Although this assist bar was developed for use in the bathroom, it can also be easily mounted in a shower, even a hallway. The materials used to produce this product are stainless steel and hard coated anodized aluminum impregnated with Teflon. This will never rust. Never trap or hold water if used in a shower.  The GrabIt Assist Bar is completely sanitary and never promote mold or bacterial growth.
